So far...so good

Hey y'all. Today, I've decided to do some writing and tell ya a bit about what this volunteering experience has done for me. As many of you know, I changed my placement in Hackney, London, around 5 months ago and got a new volunteer project in Brighton, Sussex.

I've been keeping a simple notebook (besides this one, obviously...) inwhich I simply write down stuff that comes to my mind when I think about the ways I used to have or when I discovered something new about myself, and my interaction with the people around me. That's a s valid for my time in London as of the one in East Sussex.

Coming as a volunteer to England, no doubt has been an enriching experience in many ways. I've learned a lot about myself and my purpose. It's been really eye opening. I guess I have become a more rounded person, not only in terms of life related issues, but also, more open to new ideas and points of view...and all that stuff that is important to know but that people can't really learn from a book, if you know what I mean.

Even though some stuff you are going to read, if you decide to go on, is or seems quite trivial, it's been important for me, and that's why it's here.

First of all, I should be thankful for all the things I got in CR: why? well, I got less than that here. Even though this is a first world country, it lacks the kindness of the people, the warmth of the stranger and the courtesy without guilt of your neighbor. Also, I can't drive here, big plus for Costa Rica and my car... hehe.

Second, your smile opens many doors. Sooooo, don't be f#c***g lazy and brush your teeth!!

In a more serious note (como le dicen, sorry UK), it's imperative to think that one's work is always useful, even if does not appear to be so at first sight. Your job does make a difference. Small or big, somebody appreciates what you do and even if they don't tell ya, you can be sure. And if you never get the credit you deserve (which rarely happens, it just doesn't happen the way you expect, but it DOES....) value yourself for giving your best (though you don't have to be the best at what you do...).

Likewise, do thank God, life or whatever/whoever you believe in, that sometimes things do not go the way you wanted them to. It makes life easier. There is no time for "what if" or "if only". That's bullshit, bullocks, bla bla bla... Do concentrate in the fact that you did the best you could at the moment in time you decided to do what you did. That should be enough not to steal your sleep at night.

No hay comentarios.:
