Hackney Leaving Care Chess Team/Equipo de Ajedrez

Hola! cómo están? Esta semana obtuve la autorización para empezar a rodar una nueva iniciativa en LCS: el equipo de Ajedrez de Hackney Leaving Care Service. Mañana 17 de Noviembre, empezaré a reclutar gente, que bien puede saber jugar o no, para formar el club.

Yo seré el instructor y estaré a cargo enteramente del proyecto. Tendremos una sesión semanal de práctica y entrenamiento y luego se organizará un torneo interno entre los jóvenes y el personal del trabajo. Mis compañeros de trabajo avalaron la idea y muchos juegan ya ajedrez, entonces solo hace falta integrar a los muchachos y muchachas que quieran participar.

Después del torneo, con más confianza, entonces podremos retar a entes externos, por ejemplo, otros servicios iguales a LCS en otras partes de Londres, otros clubes o equipos, el público en general, etc.

El fin del equipo de ajedrez, nunca antes desarrollado en Hackney LCS, es darle una herramienta más a los jóvenes para que se diviertan, practiquen un deporte de manera sana y al mismo tiempo desarrollen una habilidad mental que les será útil para mantenerse activos. Además, existen características que el juego puede brindar que son tangiblemente aplicables a la vida diaria tales como la confianza en s¡ mismos, alta autoestima, sana ambición, espíritu de competencia, planeamiento y estrategia, entre otras...

El reclutamiento, como ya mencioné, empieza mañana...después les cuento!

Hackney Leaving Care Chess Team

Hi, how you doing? This week I got the approval to start running a new iniciative at LCS: the Hackney Leaving Care Chess Team. Tomorrow, the 17th of november, I'll start recruiting people, no matter if they know how to play already or not, to be part of the club.

I will be the instructor and will be entirely in charge of the project. We will have a weekly session for practice and training and then, we will organize an internal tournament among the young people, who will be able to play against the members of staff. My co-workers think it is a good idea and many of them play chess already, so we just need to get the young people involved.

After a while, with more confidence in their game, they will be able to challenge other teams, clubs, other LCSs, etc.

The goal of the chess team, never done before in Hackney LCS, is to give the young people one more tool for them to have fun, to practice a new sport in a healthy way and at the same time, they will be able to develop a mental ability that wil be useful for them to keep themselves active. Besides, there are features the game offers and that are tangibly applicable to daily life, such as: self-confidence, high self-esteem, healthy ambition, a competitive spirit, planning and strategy, among others.

Recruiting starts tomorrow, the 17th of November, so I'll tell you more later!
